CPR Certification Renewal — What You Need to Know

Certifications don't last forever, and letting one lapse can mean starting over from scratch instead of taking a shorter renewal course.

When to renew

Most CPR/AED certifications are valid for one to three years depending on the course level. Check the expiry date printed on your certificate — we recommend booking your renewal at least a month before it expires.

What's different about a recertification course

Renewal courses cover the same core skills but move faster, since you're refreshing muscle memory rather than learning from zero. Guidelines are also updated periodically, so a recertification course is where you'll pick up any changes to compression ratios, AED use, or first aid protocols since your last class.

What happens if it lapses

If your certification expires, most providers — including us — will require you to retake the full course rather than the shorter renewal version. It's a good reason not to let the date slip.
